I discovered kettlebell circa 2010 when looking for strength exercises to compliment my stand up paddle boarding. I came across the kettlebell swing; the motion is the same as a paddle sroke. I took some private lessons to learn how to use them, and I was off and running!
At the time, I was self employed, repairing fiberglass boats, and had been for about 10 years. I was done with it and wanted a new career. While I had previously taught kayaking and surfing, I never considered becoming a full time personsl trainer. After much pressing by my wife and friends to go this route, I became a CPT through the National Academy of Sports Medicine. Shortly after that I passed the HKC course, which help me land my current position Currently positionas a personal trainer and group fitness instructor at Coastal Fitness Center in Hampstead,NC. I went on to get my Corrective Exercise Specialist certification, then, through countless hours of hard work and studying, my RKC credentials. I use Kettlebells for most exercises when possible,Though they are but one modality I use on a day to day basis. My group classes attendees have grown to love them, and I keep a good deal of my regulars because of them.
Experience has taught me how important corrective exercises are, how to recognize musce imbalances and understand how to put them back into proportion. I feel it necessary to get someone moving properly before going full tilt into an exercise program. If a movement need to work the correct muscles to be effective. I believe that a workout should give a person more than it takes, and kettlebell exercises should be more about practicing good form than anything. Once fatique starts to set in and form begins to fail, the movement should end. The benefits will come along for the ride.
