Dave Mathews Band should sing about the greatness that is Holder Rated 10 out of 10
I recently started as an intern working for Coach Holder. In the 2 months under his tutelege, I have learned more about kettlebells and training than I have from any other source. His attention to detail, passion for kettlebell training and his devotion to his athletes not only makes him one of the best coaches, but one of the best people I have been around. I look forward to the time that I will be spending learning under Coach Holder.

Review of Chris Holder Rated 10 out of 10
I have known Chris Holder for the past 3 years and it has been a pleasure training under him the whole time. From the day he started here at San Jose State University working with our football and overall athletic program, he has challenged us to work our hardest and give fourth our best effort. Everytime we step into the weight room Coach Holder greets us with enthusiasm and high energy. Given we have early morning workouts, this type of positive and vibrate environment that Coach Holder fosters really gets us all going and ready to work. Coach Holder demands that we give 100% effort everytime we come to workout. Coach Holder has his ways for making sure guys know not to give anything less than their all. Holder and his staff work with each athlete to ensure we all understand not only the mechanics of an exercise were doing but also how that exercise will transfer over to our respective positions and sports. Coach Holder has even provided us with literature on different exercises to really allow us to understand the reasoning for doing the things we do. I still remember the day Holder introduced us to the world of kettle bells. Everyone thought he was crazy at first. However, Holder put our doubt to rest with his very detailed intructions and patience when teaching us how to swing. In no time we were all feel in love with kettle bells and how much they help us in our sports. There is never a day when you come to workout that you feel as if you did not accomplish something that day. I truly enjoy having Coach Holder as my stregnth coach.

Improved Performance and Injury Prevention Rated 10 out of 10
As Director of Sports Medicine, I am concerned with not only the improvement in performance in our athletes but also the prevention of injuries that a strength and conditioning coach can provide. Chris Holder has been able to improve both of these areas with our athletes. His kettle bell, speed and agility programs have been a great asset to our intercollegiate athletes. A large part of the improvement in our athletes' success on the field and court is due to the work by Chris with our athletes in the weight room. Chris stresses proper technique in all of his exercises for optimal results and safety. He also works well with the athletic training staff in evaluating athletes' functional movements and finding deficiencies that need to be addressed before fully engaging in the training program. He continually strives to improve himself and those working around him by discussing the latest research and deciding which exercises can or should be added to our programs. Chris is the person that you want to lead your strength and conditioning program.

Best Instruction Rated 10 out of 10
Having college be my first time weight lifting, I was un instructed in every aspect of lifting. I had never even heard of a kettle bell or of the benefits of its use. With Chris Holder as my instructor I quickly learned and immediately benefitted from kettle bells as a part of my strength and conditioning program. I have never met someone more well versed and knowledgable on the subject of lifting and particularly on the correct and effective use of kettle bells. Holder has given me and my entire team a good foundation of support, understanding, and safety in the weight room. I have received some of the most beneficial training of my life working with Chris Holder.

Gets Better Every Year Rated 10 out of 10
Coming to San Jose State's Strength and Conditioning program several years ago, I was cautiously optimistic of the knowledge and opportunity Chris Holder brought to our program. In his first year as my instructor I was kindly introduced to the world of Kettle Bell training. Ensuring proper technique, while incorporating high yet proper levels of weight and volume, my strength and conditioning was taken to levels it had never been before. Now in my third year with Chris Holder the training has become ever more intense. With a strong emphasis on Kettle Bell training, Chris Holder has afforded many people the opportunity to better their strength and overall physical fitness.

The Best Strength Coach in the World Rated 10 out of 10
I had the opportunity to meet and start working with Chris Holder in the spring of 2006. I was entering my senior season at San Jose State and Chris was my new strength coach. He's the type of coach who will dedicate himself to you, IF, you work hard, regardless of talent. He is a big reason I was drafted in the 3rd round by the Green Bay Packers... He takes care of me from afar and keeps up with me even when I am gone. I travel from Green Bay to San Jose every chance that I get to visit home and train with Chris. I will be whevever he is in my offseasons.

8's to 48's Rated 10 out of 10
Coach Holder is one of the big reasons I fell in love with the weight room. Coming into a division one, top ten program I was a small 160 pounds. I had never lifted a weight in my life and over the past 3 years here I have developed a love and passion for lifting, especially swinging those kettlebells. Holder taught me how to swing and perfect my technique. I started off with 8's and have made my way up; I even found myself swinging a 48 one lift session. I trimmed down and still packed on 25 pounds of muscle. If I had to attribute my success and passion in the weight room to someone it would be Chris Holder. I will continue, even after my collegiate career, to swing and lift because of the passion and knowledge Holder instilled in me.

FUN-FILLED FITNESS Rated 10 out of 10
In my time on this Earth I have had the privelege of being coached and trained by some pretty awesome people, but none can truly compare to Mr.Chris Holder. It has been my pleasure over the past couple of years to not only be trained by Chris, but to be enlightened by his vast knowledge of fitness. He actually helped me lose 40lbs!!!Chris can be intense, but there is a method to his madness, meaning that although you might think a workout is crazy and pointless he will always give you a credible reason for doing it and you can't help but trust him because the man does his research. Another reason why Chris Holder is the best is because even when he tells you to do a particularly unfamiliar workout you know that it is something that he himself has done, which is very comforting to know because it means that it can be done. I could go on and on about Chris but I'll leave you with this; the real reason why no one can compare to Chris Holder is because he makes working out a fun-filled experience, whether it be through his workout programs or his clever wit he will make you laugh and you will have a great time.

He Keeps it Real Rated 10 out of 10
The past few years, Coach Holder is the reason why working out has become a part of my life again!!While attending Long Beach Polytechnic in high school, working hard and being the best was simple because everyone was good at what they did, so working hard was expected. Poly is the home of scholars and champions. However coming to San Jose State my first few years I didn't feel as if everyone: players and coaches, and staff believed and knew how to prepare and become champions. THEN..... Chris Holder walks into our lives and brings a challenge and great knowledge that has not been here for years! Everyday I come to work out I know what each workout is allowing my muscle to do so that I am in fit shape to play volleyball. Coach Holder pushes me to the limit, so that when I leave San Jose State I am ready and will not give up. I even plan on investing in a kettle bell when I am done with volleyball. Coach Holder is an awesome man, friend, and coach and is the reason San Jose State University Athletics will become a power house of champions.

Without a doubt - The Nation's Best! Rated 10 out of 10
Heading into my 4th year of knowing and working with Chris Holder I can say with the utmost certainty he is the best I have ever been around in the world of athlete development! As a former Division 1A football player and now coach, I feel confident in my ability to assess the development not only of individual athletes, but the state of the program and environment in which I am part. The affect I have seen Chris Holder have on our athletes is second to none! The re-emergence of the San Jose State University football program in the Western Athletic Conference, is due in LARGE part to the job he has done with our student athletes. His unique, detailed, tough, and educated approach to development of both the athletes body and psychy sets the bar!!!! The Kettle Bell training has shaped our teams culture and mentality in ways only many programs dream of... The state of a Division 1A football rides largely on the back of strength & conditioning, and I am confident I'd be one of many to stand firmly behind the idea that Chris Holder is Best Strength & Conditioning coach in the Country! To be apart of the brand name he is creating for himself is a privilege & honor. If you want to know what the world strength & conditioning is supposed to look like for elite athletes, look no further!

The Best Coach Yet Rated 10 out of 10
This upcoming season will be my third year playing women's soccer at San Jose State, it will also be my second year working under the amazing coaching of Chris Holder. The knowledge that Coach Holder has brought to my team and I has been an absolute blessing and I couldn't imagine being where I am in my career without him. I have had the privilege of working one on one with Chris due to injuries and specific needs that I have as an athlete, and he has be nothing but motivating and supportive through everything. In just one year I have been close to injury free due to the strength and conditioning program under Coach Holder, and I know that without him I would not be the athlete I am now. I owe a lot to Chris and I really can't imagine having a more inspirational and supportive coach.

The Best You Can Get Rated 10 out of 10
I am extremely blessed to have Chris Holder as my trainer throughout my high school and club volleyball season. I am 16 years old and a sophmore in high school but all of the work that I have done with Chris makes my volleyball career look extremely promising in the future. With Chris' outstanding knowledge, determination, and passion throughout our sessions, I feel as if I have a much greater advantage over most athletes. During his training hours, Chris' main and only focus is to benefit the athlete and strive to help them reach their goal. He is extremely driven and his great communication skills exhibit the qualities of a top-notch instructor and one of the best you can possibly get. I will definitely continue to work with Chris seeing as that my vertical jump has increased greatly and a lot of my goals have been reached. I wouldn't recommend any other trainer better than Chris Holder. In all, he is unquestionably the best motivator, coach, and athlete that I have ever met.

Knowledge Is Power Rated 10 out of 10
During my two-decade long career in Athletics (which includes time in the NFL, college athletics and at the NSCA) I have worked with some of the finest, most knowledgable strength and conditioning coaches in the World. Coach Holder belongs with the best of that grouping.

His breadth of technical knowledge is impressive. From the more traditional ground based explosive training to his array of kettle bell methods, Chris can truly design a well balanced program for any athlete.

His work with our student-athletes has truly been extraordinary. We are faster, stronger, more explosive and our occurrence of injury has diminished.

Additionally, Chris has assembled a fantastic group of coaches -- all of whom share in his vision for building a better athlete. We are fortunate to have him.

The Best of Both Worlds Rated 10 out of 10
It is rare to find someone who has so much knowledge AND the skills to communicate that knowledge to you. Chris has the ability to take complex theories and turn them into simple application. Working out with him is literally the highlight of my week. I noticed huge fitness gains very quickly. I am 10,000 times stronger, and feel lighter on my feet. I would recommend him to anyone looking to change their body and their life. Chris Holder is the real deal.

Made me a better athlete Rated 10 out of 10
I have been training with Coach Holder over the past three years. During this time I have completely transformed as an athlete. When I began working with Chris Holder I was not nearly as strong, fast and explosive as I am today. Most of what I attribute to my success comes from his kettlebell instruction which was given to me on his first day as my strength coach. Coach Holder has an incredible understanding of how to develop functional strength that will translate into athletics. I can honestly say that my perfomance on the football field has dramatically improved because of Coach Holder.

bigger, faster, stronger Rated 10 out of 10
Since April of 2007 I have been workingout under the leadership of Coach Holder. That is when I was first initiated to kettle-bells, which is a sphere shaped weight with a handle attached to it. It completely changed my workouts from normal to explosive. The kettle-bell consist of fast-twitched hip thrust movement, which a full body workout. In September of 2007 I had reptured a disk in my lower back. I thought I would never play football again. With the help of God and a great strength coach Im now 90 percent back to normal. My upper body is stronger then before, and my core is great. The kettle-bell help reconstruct my core as well as stregthen my lower back. It is uncommon to find strength coaches who know what they are teaching and can back it up by scientific and experimental evidence. I can't wait to see how strong I can progress to before season.

A True Professional Rated 10 out of 10
As a Certified Athletic Trainer for the past twenty-five years at the amateur, collegiate, and professional levels I have had the opportunity to work with a broad and varied group of sports medicine/exercise science professionals. Chris Holder is a true strength and conditioning professional for reasons that go far beyond swinging kettlebells. He values and respects the athletes he works with and will leave no stone unturned in working to push them to achieving their best as athletes and team-mates. His high expectation - high demand - no nonsense approach is infectuous. Chris surrounds himself with fellow professionals that challenge his knowledge and push him to be the best. Casual daily conversation becomes an opportunity to learn more for all involved, I am certain I have gained from his knowledge and perspective through these daily chats. For me, the true sign of a professional is one who seeks to improve him or herself while improving those around him/her. Coach Holder is exactly that kind of individual.

Christopher "Boss" Holder Rated 10 out of 10
There are few people in the world that can put a permanent stain in your memory and lucky for me, Chris Holder is one of them. I have had the luxury to know Chris for three years now and he is the best mentor and teacher I have experienced in my life. His new techniques in the weight room with kettle bells makes a normal athlete into an extraordinary beast. Not only was I able to gain 15 pounds, but at the same time become the fastest and strongest I have ever been. He took a team that was less than par and turned them around to a 9-4 bowl winning team. There are many coaches on staff at a division one program, but none could be more important and influencial than a great strength coach like that of Chris Holder. His personal skills and motivational drive makes you want better for yourself and your team. I have graduated from the college program and have become a fire fighter for the state of California. During my attendance at the fire academy, I was able to destroy the record for the agility course by over 20 seconds. I directly contribute my physical being to everything that I have learned from coach Holder. Coach Holder and Kettle Bells have been one of the greatest things to happen to me. Not only is my job easier, but I have superiors asking for kettle bell workouts because they can see the difference between someone who works out and someone who works out with proper kettle bell training. I have nothing but great things to say and praise about Chris Holder and the way he runs his weight room.

San Jose Finest Rated 10 out of 10
For the past two years I have had the privilige to work with Coach Holder at San Jose State. Previously, I attended UC Riverside and my experience there was far from what I expected as a college athlete. After training with Holder I became motivated to work out and now strive to be the strongest, fastest, and best in everything on my team and in the weight room. Coach Holder has a way of making 6am weights the most difficult workout you have ever gone through, but at the same time the most enjoyable two hours of your day. His light heartedness and quick wit is something all of the athletes respond well to and therefore we all respect him. He is by far my favorite coach in my twenty years of athletics and is someone that has made a huge impact on my life.

Chris Holder is the Truth Rated 10 out of 10
About four years ago I can remember watching the San Jose State football team on television playing in a game where it seemed like they were outmatched in every aspect. The opposing team seemed faster, stronger, tougher, and more together on the field and on the sidelines. Two years i came to San Jose State to play football and my first year here was also Chris Holder's. When I arrived in the summer before my freshman year I could see that Holder was doing something that had not been seen in San Jose. I'm not just talking about the fact that he introduced us to kettlebells, but the way that he goes about his job every single day that he is in the weight room. Chris Holder's first season at SJSU the team saw an improvement from a 3-8 season the year before to a 9-4 record and champions of the New Mexico Bowl. The way that Chris holder combines lifting weights, kettlebell work, and conditioning is second to none. In my two short years here I have made tremendous gains in strength, explosiveness, endurance, and mental toughness. I owe every bit of that to Chris Holder. He is not just a great weight coach but an amazing friend. I know what type of work he does for us and how much time he puts in for us and the fact that our relationship is so strong makes me want to work for him like he does for me. I trust him so when he tells me to do a new workout or throw on some more weight to push myself, i do it without question because he knows that i can do it. One thing that I love about him is he does not let you quit. If you dont do something the first time, or the, or the third, or fourth, or even the fifth. He makes you stick with it. He works with you and gives you little pointers everytime so you get a little better with each attempt. You may be tired, but by your sixth attempt, after he has made you stick with it, you finally get a new workout down and it feels amazing. By the time you are finished, other athletes have seen how hard you have been working and struggling and have come over to help you out with a little encouragement. That is how he not only makes you both mentally and physically tough, but he builds confidence in yourself because you did something your never thought you could do and builds a stronger bond between you and your teammates because they see you working for them and they want to work for you. His confidence and mental toughness is exhibited in the mental toughness and confidence of his athletes. Anyone can make you stronger by throwing weights on something and making you lift. His methods give you the little extra you need to take yourself to another level that you could not imagine. The bar that I strive for is raised everyday and I thank Chris Holder for that.

A One Of a Kind Strength and Conditioning Coach Rated 10 out of 10
I have been lifting weights since i was 13 years old, and i have never enjoyed working out as much as i do now. I am a transfer from Arizona State University and their Strength and Conditioning coacch is one of the best in the country, but he couldn't walk a day in Coach Holders shoes. His relationship with the athletes are just as unique as his strength and comditioning program. He combines weight lifting, running, and kettlebels to form what in my opionion is the best offseason workout plan in the country. He has gotten out foorball team significantly stronger, and in the best shape that we have ever been in, and was the key componet to helping our team go from 3-8, to 9-4 New Mexico Bowl champions. More specifically, i injured three disk in my lower back during last season and since this injury occured Coach Holder has done an excellent job working with me. My core strength has gotten stronger than its ever been, while at the same time i haven't re-injured my back. He knows the difference between pain and injury and will bever question ones injury, but when you come to workout you better be ready to work harder than you have ever worked before, and as much as i hate kettlebells, i have watched coach Holder transform our team into a kettlebell swinging machine. Coach Holder is truly one of a kind, and he is the absolute best at what he does, and there is no strength coach like Chris Holder.

this is how and why we do it! Rated 10 out of 10
Chris Holder is a very knowledgeable and engaging instructor when it comes to the body, its dynamics and how he integrates Kettle Bells to your specific needs. He understands which techniques are most beneficial for your specific situation in athletics. He gives though and complete instructions on how to accomplish the technique, and then makes sure it is carried through correctly. I am entering my third year under his guidance and instructing and have been able to increase my core strength to a point that I do not get injuries in the core body area and I have a much better recovery rate in athletic events. Chris Holder is an honest and very dedicated instructor. If some one had explained Kettle Bells and a different program, it might have worked, but to the same degree Chris Holder is able to do. His workouts with Kettle Bells have done more for me and my carrier as an athlete than any other single act. Simply; it has made me better.

Comrade Holder Rated 10 out of 10
There are few things as inspiring as watching someone master their calling in life. Chris possesses that rare combination that defines the consummate coach...knowledge, communication, passion. I have yet to find a deficiency in his approach. His knowledge of the craft extends well beyond his certification, as he often draws from his experiences with other athletes and situations that enhance your understanding of the method. Even when he points to an error in technique, he is never condescending, I think in part because he takes it as a challenge to communicate even better. At the same time he is encouraging, he is not "soft". Chris will take your training personally. He will get more out of you than you knew was in you. The fact that this man trains us on his own time at the end of a 12-hour work day should give some insight into his passion. To Chris...many, many thanks!

Though i have only worked with Chris for three session i do not want to train with anyone else. Chris has the ability to look at athletes and recognize the differences right away. He recognizes what they are good at and can adapt his training to anyone. Chris's first and main focus is safety and technique. He never turns his eyes away from the athletes when they train. He breaks down the technique of the swing in such a way that any can and should do it. Chris is so methodical in his training, from the warm up to the manmakers and chain of pain. Thanks Chris you are the man!

I was lucky enough to be on Chris Holder's team for the June '08 RKC in San Jose. If you want a Coach/Instructor with not only the technical knowledge, but the enthusiasm to help you find your best I believe Chris is your man. There is no doubt in my mind that Chris feels and enjoys his students accomplishments as much if not more than they do themselves. The RKC weekend was no 'one night stand' with Chris. When I have needed training support, encouragement, and advice since he has been there straight away. Once you are a member of TEAM HOLDER you are there to stay. Thanks again to the big man!

Coach Holder is the best instructor around. I have spent the last 4 months training with chris in preparation for the 2008 NFL Draft and the results have been phenomenal. I have been around power-lifting and football all my life and I have never met someone like chris. He is both a passionate and driven individual who has not only become a leader in the strength and conditioning world, but he has also become an expert in developing athletes for the professional level. He is a strong believer in kettle bells for both increasing speed and power but also for explosion development. Simply put - Chris Holder delivers results. His ability to communicate is one of his greatest strengths. I had never used kettle bells before training with Holder, but the unique thing about my experience with Chris is that he didn't just show me the correct form, he explained what each exercise targeted and how it would transition to the football field. There is no one like Coach Holder. He is a master at what he does and I am truly greatful for what he has done for me and my future.

"Hey Chris" Rated 10 out of 10
I met Coach Holder in January of 2006 going into my senior football season. Of course with new coaches players can be very skeptical as to what kind of guy they are about to inherit because in their eyes these coaches do affect careers. Holder came in as one of the most intense, genuine, intelligent strength coach that I had ever met. His teaching of a new philosophy called "Kettle Bells" was one thing that I think changed every players body and work ethic around here. Holder had a quiet confidence to hisself knowing that if a player truly worked and believed he could be better, with his teaching he would get the maximum results from that player. In the previous four years at SJSU, we did not have a winning season once. The players bought in and that summer we had the highest percentage of players stay around and get better that summer. We ended up winning the New Mexico Bowl and most people would give the credit to the coaching staff, but in my eyes coach Holder deserves the most credit. We were doing new running drills getting rid of 110's because Holder felt why run a hundred yards if you will never do it in a game, especially line men. He was more focused on quick bursts, change of direction drills that were identical to what we did on a football field. Another thing I love about Chris is his training regimen that he does with the players getting ready for the NFL. His teaching of how explosiveness effects a players overall game is one that i have taking truly to heart. After two months of training I jumped a 10'6 on the broad jump and 37 on the vertical jump. The explosion I had on the basketball court was all because of Holder's teaching and I credit him with the way my body has transformed and the unleashed potential I didnt know I had until meeting and working with Holder. 20 years from now when I have kids I'll be calling Chris sending my kids to him for the summer so they can be the best!

Thee Chris Holder Rated 10 out of 10
I feel very fortunate to have been trained by Chris Holder. Chris Holder was my Strength and Conditioning Coach for football at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. The 2004 and 2005 seasons at Cal Poly are viewed as the two most talented football teams in the history of the school. I believe along with many of my teammates, that Chris Holder laid the foundation for our success with his time, effort, and knowledge of strength and conditioning. Chris Holder was also one thee first Strength and Conditioning coaches to use the kettlebell as a part of a college workout. Much of us at Cal Poly attributed our success to the kettlebell training which was heavily used during the 2004 and 2005 seasons. I am also an RKC and was privileged enough to have Chris Holder as my Instructor. I was able to take the knowledge that was passed down to me by Chris Holder and use it to transform a poorly trained local high school team into a power house. The techniques, concepts, and teaching style I used were identical to the ways that Chris Holder taught me. It is safe to say that the athletic success which I have experienced and brought upon others would not have been possible without the aid of Chris Holder. As far as I am concerned, there is no better instructor, coach, or teacher than Chris Holder.

The absolute best at what he does. Rated 10 out of 10
Seeing Chris Holder at work is simply a pleasure. It is truly amazing how he is able to get the most out of his athletes. Chris has worked tirelessly to prepare himself to be the best by excelling academically, gaining valuable work and personal experience, as well as possessing certain intangibles that set him head and shoulders above others. The result is a strength coach that can take any body with any disposition and make them the strongest, fastest, most well-conditioned they can be. After seeing him train countless elite athletes with such amazing results, I can honestly say with confidence that he's the best at what he does. Chris has a true gift in understanding the art of physical fitness training, but I was equally impress with how he'll work harder than anyone to help everyone reach their goals.

HOLDER: The Best There Is Rated 10 out of 10
I have had the privilege of seeing Chris at work in various settings: First as a student-athlete at San Jose State, then as a prospective Professional International Volleyball player, and currently as a club volleyball coach.
As a student-athlete he made us eager to embrace and adapt kettlebells into our strength and conditioning program. His professionalism, extensive knowledge, and repor with the athletes quickly gained him the respect of our entire team. He inspired us to take pride in our effort and got us to work harder than we ever thought possible. There was nothing we wouldn't do for him.
His dedication to his athletes continues even after their eligibility ends. In my situation, I went on an International Volleyball Tour in 2007 with Team USA the summer after my eligibility was up. Although he had 300+ athletes to attend to already, he developed a unique program to fit my specific needs, therefore making it possible for me to compete at the international level. He kept me on track and focused when all I wanted to do was quit. His determination to see me succeed, allowed me to go to Argentina in the best shape of my life.
Most recently, I have come to Chris Holder with three 16-year-old athletes on my club volleyball team, in hopes of improving their overall strength, vertical jump, and lateral speed. Although these girls had never seen a weight room before (and certainly had never heard of a kettlebell before) they have already made SIGNIFICANT growth in all areas, especially their verticals. Because of Chris' unique talent to reach athletes of all abilities, the girls now look like they've been swinging kettlebells for years.
There is no one out there like Chris Holder. Ask any Spartan Athlete, especially myself, and you'll hear nothing but praise and admiration for the man who has given us all the strength and drive to be true Division-1 competitors. Any person, athlete or non-athlete, should consider themselves extremely lucky to work with such a dedicated, hard-working professional. I whole-heartedly believe when it comes to coaches, he is, without a doubt, the best there is.

My miracle man Rated 10 out of 10
I played Soccer for Cal Poly’s Women’s team from 2000-2004. I was the member of what would be a 4 time Big West Champion teams during my eligibility. In the 2002 season I started to develop severe pain in my shins while I played and/or did anything physical. During the off season, I tried to get the pain to subside so I could train seriously for what would be my senior season. After many appointments with several orthopedics, I had to have surgery for Compartment Syndrome on BOTH of my lower legs. For those of you not familiar with this type of surgery, it’s no walk in the park. The surgeon basically fillets the outer coating of my lower leg muscles to allow normal blood flow through the leg. This ailment is basically the strangulation of the venous system. The muscle is restricted to point where the blood flow is reduced dramatically and the throbbing and aching can be indescribable. The surgery left me in a wheel chair for almost a month… a month that I should have been training. The consensus was that I probably would never play competitively again and for my intent to be directed at having a normal life. Now, I had been playing soccer since I was four years old… do the math, I had been playing for 17 years and now I was going to have to forgo my LAST season… potentially the one that meant the most to me.

There are no words that can describe the feeling of being told that u can no longer play a sport that has given you so much joy your whole life. Not to mention having your coaches, trainers and entire team write you off as no longer being a college soccer player or teammate. Still having a small shred of competitiveness in me, I was determined to prove the entire world wrong…..I would play my senior season. I turned to the one person I knew would support, motivate and physically get me to the place I needed to be, that person was Chris Holder. I remember it like it was yesterday….I walked into the weight room with tears welling up in my eyes and told Chris that I had to play. I would do whatever it took to get me back on the field. He looked at me and said “Okay heather, have a seat”. Chris and I sat down and mapped out the next year of my life. Chris developed a work out plan all the way to the day of my surgery, hoping it would help/speed my recovery. After my surgery I was pretty immobile for a while as you can imagine. Chris visited me everyday to make sure that I was doing alright and to make sure I was still on board. He made sure my spirits were still up….he would do wheelies with me up and down the hall while I was in my wheel chair. Whatever it took, he did. Now it was time to start my recovery. Chris was with me every second of my workouts. He was there pushing me and most importantly not letting me quit. Chris and I developed a bond that year, a bond that turned into a close friendship. I knew that he would be by my side no matter what. To this day I can’t believe how much emotional, mental and physical energy Chris put into me and my recovery that year. He spent hours making sure each exercise was going to get me that much closer. Each days work out was thought out to the tee. He made sure each exercise was going to push me, yet not past the edge. These were just my weight room exercise….don’t forget I am a soccer player, I had to run. In the past running was the hardest task for me. Chris worked his magic by designing running drills that would not only get me back in shape, but were geared towards a collegiate soccer player. I hated but loved every minute of each workout. Chris Holder was my guardian angel that year. There is no way I would have ever played my senior season if it wasn’t for Chris. I tear up just thinking about it. At my senior banquet I stood up and thanked the man that made it possible for a young girl to finish out her dream of playing college soccer. To this day I don’t think I will ever be able to fully thank or completely tell Chris how much he has meant to me and how much it meant to have someone believe in you and help you.

I have known Chris Holder now for over 10 years. Even back when we were in college together, Chris had the gift of helping others achieve their ideal results in regards to strength and conditioning, including in myself! He is an excellent motivator, communicator, coach, and person! He definitely has an insight to see what each individual needs for their optimum training in regards to their body and personality. Not only is he the most knowledgeable person that I have met in this area but he is the absloute best at making the change happen in each individual! Even to this day, I still consult with Chris simply because he is THAT AMAZING!

This off-season will be the 2nd full year that I have known coach holder and he has improved my athletic ability and my life. Coach has made me the most explosive player I can possibly be which was evident this year in my rookie season as I lead the NFL in yards per catch. Coach has a excellent understanding of weight lifting and how it will impact your body. Wherever coach is when my season is over thats where I will be training in my off-season.

In the past three years trainning under Coach Holder I have experienced gains in strength, speed, quickness, durability, and mental toughness that, with out a doubt, I could never have reached without Coach Holder. His engaging teaching style and systematic trainning prgrams have raised my athletic preformance to new heights. Not only is Holder the best strength and conditioning Coach around, I consider him to be one of the best people I have met since I've been in San Jose.

I have worked with Chris Holder for 2 years now and believe that, without a doubt, he is one of the best strength and conditioning coaches and kettlebell instructors there is. He has a talent for speaking and teaching in a way that allows a learner to fully understand and grasp not only the technique of a skill, but the underlying importance of it. Working with him has presented a learning experience for me every day and I consider myself very fortunate to be exposed to someone of his knowledge and ability.

This will be my ninth year in the NFL and in that time I have had the oppurtunity to work with many strength and conditioning coaches. In my opinion Chris Holder is the best I have ever worked with. I could train with anyone in the Bay Area, but I continue to spend my off-season with him. Without a doubt he has made me a stronger, faster, and better football player. He has allowed me to play at a higher level and has added years to my career. As long as I play, I will make my off-season home wherever he resides.

A Great Coach. Rated 10 out of 10
Aside from Chris Holders vast knowledge and experience as a coach, his number one strength is his ability to communicate. Aside from Pavel, I have not met many people so adept in the ability to communicate complex concepts to the layperson or transform a complex movement to a mundane task to a large group of 20 to 50 plus people. The ability to read a group or individual and relay complex information to them in a way that they understand and relates to them is a very special strength. His ability to communicate extends past the verbal and onto the paper, if you’ve read some of Chris’s articles in Strength and Conditioning or the Dragon Door site, you can catch a glimpse into his talent and mind. I’m very proud and fortunate to say that I’ve had the ability to learn from and coach along side of Chris Holder.

CHRIS HOLDER IS CLEARLY A DIFFERENCE MAKER OF GIGANTIC PROPORTIONS FOR US. HIS ABILITY TO GET CLOSE TO AND EARN THE TRUST OF AHTLETES IS EXTRAORDINARY. THIS COMBINED WITH HIS PIED PIPER QUALITY, COMPLETE GRASP OF THE METHODS FOR TRAINING OUR GUYS, HIS CONTINUAL RESEARCH AND STUDY TO USE NEW TECHNIQUES AND OF COURSE THE INTRODUCTION OF KETTLE BELLS MAKE HIM A SENSATIONAL LEADER. For the last three years I have been lucky enough to train with who I believe is the best weight coach in the country, Chris Holder. Since he has arrived at San Jose State I have become bigger, stronger, and faster than I have ever been in my life. As an athlete he has taken me to a level where I would have never reached without him, and because of this I am a better football player. Not only does Coach Holder teach us the correct way to lift, but he also teaches us why we are doing it and how it is going to be beneficial out on the field. Without Coach Holder I would have never reached my potential, he is an awesome weight coach and also an awesome person.

Coach Holder was my coach from 2001 to 2005 at Cal Poly and continues to train me during the off-season. As Strength Coach Chris helped motivate and train me to become a professional athlete. Dedicated to his field like no one else I have met, Chris is always pushing me to do my best. Coach Holder is always learning about the latest lifting techniques and implementing the best of them into his workouts. Coach works very hard to customize our workouts to help us meet our goals, and push us to the brink of our potential. Coach Holder is an awesome strength coach and a great person. God Bless!

Man of Wonders! Rated 10 out of 10
Coach Holder is the absolute best weight coach I've ever had. I have been priveleged enough to have Coach holder train me and the rest of my volleyball team at San Jose State University for the past three years and there is nothing but good things to say. He taught us the "correct" way to lift which had a heavy emphasis on speed, power, explosiveness, and strength. I had never been introduced to Kettlebells before Coach Holder and I was very unsure of their purpose. Through his enthusiasm and vast knowledge I have become a true believer of their effectiveness. First and foremost Holder is an awesome teacher of the proper way of carrying out a swing and makes sure that technique is never sacrificed. In doing so I was able to gain confidence and really put all my effort into each and every swing. Holder's training of kettlebells has definitely made a vast difference in my athleticism because of the speed and explosiveness that he taught us to bring in the swing which directly correlates to the speed and power I need on the court. His knowledge on the kettlebells and ability to translate that to the athletes is truly one of a kind. Coach Holder has doen incredible things for our team and me personally. He has made me a better, faster, stronger athlete and has done wonders for our volleyball team.

HOLDER the BIG GUY! Rated 10 out of 10
Coach Holder is by far one of the most amazing coaches I've ever had. He pushes us athletes to be the best we can be. His ability to understand the biomechanics of strength and conditioning is incredible. If you don't understand how to do something or why you are doing it, he will be able to break it down into terms that you would understand and will ask no further questions, but do it because he makes sense. As a strength and conditioning coach, he does not only train us on the strength side, but also other aspects such as our speed, cardio and plyometrics, which all relates to the sports that we do here at San Jose State University. One other thing that he is very knowledgable about is kettle bells. I've never seen or touched a kettle bell until he came to our program. I have been doing kettle bells for awhile and have gain tremendous strenth and cardio and that is all thanks to coach Holder. Coach Holder will teach you how to do anything, and would not leave you alone until you perfect it. He is an awesome coach that treats guys and girls equally, and a very very good guy. I am extremely happy that he is here at SJSU working with my volleyball team and I.

Chris Holder - The Knowledge Makes Him King Rated 10 out of 10
I've had the pleasure of having Chris Holder work with our student-athletes at San Jose Sate this past year. His focus on the development of the athlete as it relates to their individual sport is unparalled. His knowledge base as it relates to strength, speed, agility & performance is unsurpased within his field. The understanding of what a volleyball athlete needs from a strength coach comes very natural to Chris. Our players are making strides on the court due to the time and effort Chris puts in to developing the athlete as it relates to their specific sport. Our player's confidence on the court also eminates from their endurance and ability to execute their set of skills at a high level, and sustained level from their workouts with Chris. His energy level makes working with him fantastic, very fun and motivating. His expectations are clear and to the point. As a coach he is a valuable member or our team and as a teacher he is is ereplaceable.

Redefining Results-Oriented Training and Education Rated 10 out of 10
Chris Holder is without any doubt the best trainer my athletes and I have worked with. Every year, my team and I sign 6-10 athletes to represent as they prepare for the NFL. As we all know, the NFL only provides a home to less than 1% of all NCAA athletes; needless to say, it is a cut throat, overly demanding sport and business.

I interface with trainers and facilities all over the country - about 30 programs in total. As part of our role (as agents), we place 2-3 viable training options in front of our clients. Each year we get various results from various training programs/players, but of all the top performances, THE common denominator is Chris and his tailored programs; he produces results that have not been paralleled by many. One must remember that 6-8 weeks training can only do so much; these athletes have been primed for 8-10 years - they are high performance bodies. My personal belief has always been mind over matter. What you learn mentally, HOW you learn, and HOW you apply the knowledge is key. Moreso, a teacher is only as good as his delivery. Chris knows HOW TO DELIVER. His ability to quickly identify THE WAY an indidivual learns best, how to maintain intensity and focus is uncanny. Chris is a hands on, learn by doing instructor - he challenges by encouraging; I've seen some of my clients renew their confidence by learning more in 2 minutes than they have in 6-8 weeks with other programs; you can't buy confidence, but you can teach it if you have it - it's contagious when you train with Chris. So contrary to the forementioned statement of limited results in 6-8 weeks, Chris produced incredible gains in all areas for every athlete I've seen work with him in very limited time.

I've spent days and weeks with Chris as he educates our player, as he instructs them on new ways to integrate the power of focus and mind into every lift; I've never met anyone who really understands HOW to communicate the knowledge and tools to use one's body more efficiently. I would have to say his programs have no tolerance for ego. It's re-establishing a player's foundation, by revisiting fundamentals and technique, then quickly moving forward before the athlete gets impatient. THAT is what produces results. It's the ever so common theme in all performance based "businesses," high yielding results with minimal time and resources.

Chris Holder accomplishes it all and his athletes are his proof.

I have had the priviledge to train with chris for 3 years and i have never experienced the kind of strength, speed, and endurance i gained while with chris. In the summer of 06 i dislocated my patella and chris was a big part of the rehab. Chris has been one of the main reasons for my quick recovery and ability to play 4 weeks after my dislocation. Chris is a phenomenal strength and condition coach but an even greater person and friend. I cant say enough about Chris Holder and his staff, they are a great team of trainers.

He is without a doubt one of the best instructors around. he will work with you until perfection and will push you to a limit your body has never gone to before. i owe all my success directly to coach holder and his kettle bell instructions as well as his attitude towards aspiring learners. thank you chris holder.

During my time as a college athlete at San Jose State Chris Holder has been the catalyst to our athletic programs success. Before Chris arrived at San Jose State our football team had not had a winning season in over a decade. After Chris' first year on campus our team went 9-4 and our success was a direct result of our work with Coach Holder and the Kettle Bells. Personally I lost over 40 Lbs and became stronger working with Holder. This fall i will have the oportunity to play in the Nfl and I truly believe without Coach Holder coming to San Jose State and changing our program that dream would not come true.

Chris has been the best thing to ever happen to me, his knowledge and teaching has been the thing to change my career. I am a former quarterback at San Jose State and am currently preparing for the NFL draft, and in my preperation for the draft I decided the best place to train and become one of the elite athletes in this years draft is not at some fancy expensive training facility, its right here with Chris. He not only turns you into a physical specimen but explains to you what and why the workouts he designs are so important. Chris is the reason I have a chance to play in the NFL, because before he came to San Jose State I was a below average quarteback. He changed how I trained and molded me into one of the elite.

Chris was my coach in college at Cal Poly. His coaching style with the kettlebells changed me as an person as well as an athlete. Before the kettlebells i was an average player, after chris trainned me with the kettlebells i was a three year starter, two time all-american and now a strength coach my self as well as RKC certified. The amount of knowledge chris has is astonishing and the ability to adjust his coaching per group he is working with is brilliant. Chris can teach anybody anything.

Competent, Professional, and Engaged Rated 10 out of 10
I have been working with Coach Holder for the past few months at San Jose State University as a consultant for his “special needs” athletes. It has been an awesome opportunity not only to work with talented athletes, but also to work and learn from a truly gifted coach. Coach Holder exudes competent experience with every word, and the programs he formulates for a number of sports on a daily basis are phenomenal. As a true master of his craft, he considers himself a student of the game. Unlike most students, he determines where he needs to improve, gains the knowledge and then sets out to MASTER the skills with a vengeance. He is very focused and remains totally engaged mentally throughout the day. He is a true professional and it is a pleasure to work with him. If you are in the San Jose area and want to get Lean, Strong, or improve your athletic performance to the Pro Level, then you have one choice. Work with Coach Holder.

I have had the privilage to train with Chris Holder for a year now. His knowledge of weight training, strength and conditioning goes way beyond the field. He pours his heart and soul into San Jose State's athletic program and challenges us in ways that I didn't know I could push myself and it has made me a better athlete and our whole team is stronger because of him. Coach Holder teaches us the correct way to lift, and he also teaches us why we are doing it and how it is going to be beneficial out on the field. I have seen instant results from what I do in the weight room to out on the field. I feel so lucky to be a part of his program and I owe a lot to Chris Holder for the athlete that I am. More Than A Weight Coach Rated 10 out of 10
Coach Holder is an amazing weight coach. I have spent time with other strength and conditioning coaches at prestigious universities and Coach Holder has been the most beneficial to my athletic performance and knowledge. I came to San Jose State with a history of injuries including back injuries, hamstring injuries and others. When Coach Holder introduced me to kettle bells I had doubts that I would be able to perform the excercise because of my history. I had a herniated disk in my back on a part of my spine that is called the L5. I had had an ex-ray prior to working with Coach Holder that showed herniation and my previous weight coach had me avoid doing anything in my training that could possibly involve strain on my back. This, as you can imagine, discouraged my growth as an athlete. When I met Coach Holder he told me that kettle bells would help my back once he taught me their proper technique. He told me that when I learned to use my abdominals and my butt to carry the load that my back was carrying, my back would serve its proper role, instead of carrying loads that my butt and abs are meant to carry, thus my injury would heal. Within weeks I no longer had issues with my back and I am now able to dead lift 500 pounds or more. This is just one of the things that Coach Holder has helped me with as an athlete. Overall he has completly changed for the better the way I perform and train. I have trained with many weight coaches and have had many accalades as an athlete and I have never trained with someone as well equipped to handle all aspects of physical training. I have also come to know Coach Holder outside of training as a friend and have discovered that he is great at his job because it is one of his greatest passions in life to see people he cares about reach their goals. I highly recoment Coach Holder for any physical training needs and it has been a privelage to work with him.

Coach Holder helped me lose over 80 pounds. I feel great. Rated 10 out of 10
As an athlete who has worked with multiple strength and conditioning coaches over the years, I can say without a shadow of a doubt that Chris Holder is the best I ever had the privilege of training for. During my playing days, under Holder's guidance, I shattered every personal weight lifting goal I had ever hoped to achieve. Having said that, his biggest impact on my life came after my playing days. As a former offensive lineman, who was not going to continue playing after college, I was overweight and unhappy with the way I looked and felt. Coach Holder designed a work out both in cardio and weight lifting that was custom to the goals I was trying to achieve, which was lean muscle and fat loss. In one year, I dropped from 296 pounds to 210 pounds. He was responsible for everything from my weight training, to cardio, to my diet. Not only was I losing fat, but I was gaining lean muscle. I had never felt or looked better in my entire life. There is no doubt in my mind that I would not have been able to achieve this without his expertise, experience, and leadership. As a result of my transformation by Holder, I am healthy, happy and have learned all the tools I need to continue down the path he has created for me. He has had more impact on my quality of life then anybody I have ever been in contact with and there is no words or amount of money I could pass his way that would thank him enough. I would recommend him to anybody who is looking to take their athletic career to the next level on or off the field. You will not meet a better person to train for in a million years. If you are looking to reach the next level as an athlete or quite simply change your life health wise there is not a better coach then Chris Holder.

Best weight coach EVER! Rated 10 out of 10
For the past two years, I have been under the instruction of Chris Holder and have been in the best shape of my life. He has trained me mentally and physically to push myself and achieve goals I would have thought impossible, and I know I'm a better athlete because of him. Holder makes his work and building a relationship in the weight room top priority and always coaches with the player in mind. He teaches us athletes how to be disciplined and work our very hardest every session. Holder is by far the best strength and conditioning coach I could have ever had and I am thankful to get to work with him. The knowledge Holder has is useful in many aspects of one's life and has made me appreciate and enjoy coming to the weight room.

Having worked with Coach Holder for the past three years with his involvement with our Women's Soccer Team here at San Jose State University I can easily say he took our team for having almost no fitness base and we now have a solid base.

His dedication and hard work along with his building solid working relationships with our team are a few of the reasons his program has been successful.

Easily the best strength and conditioning coach I have worked with.

Making the impossible possible Rated 10 out of 10
I never thought it would be possible for me to get so strong and have so much fun doing it! I had never played sports or enjoyed going to a gym. As a long time practitioner of yoga, a yoga teacher, and a double organ transplant, building stability and strength was always the missing factor for me. I think I presented a unique challenge for Chris, but he has proven himself more than up to it. Tonight, after only four months of training with Chris, when I did my first ever double snatches and dead lifted way more than my body weight, I don't know whether he or I was more happy. I remembered the first time I tried to snatch and my arm went completely around my shoulder. Chris never lost confidence that in spite of my hypermobility, we could build strength and be able to master kettlebells as an essential part of my training program. I see him inspire his athletes to be more than they think they can be every day. It is a great privilege to know Chris and be able to train with him. Plus, it's a ton of fun!

Chris was my team leader when I went for recertification at San Jose. Not only was he the host with the most at his facility at San Jose State he was an amazing and attentive team leader. I have pretty high expectations of RKC certs and this was no exception but Chris really knows how to inspire and instruct with equal facility. His humor and guidance made the experience truly enjoyable (please don't tell that to Jeff O'Connor!) Seriously - Chris is obviously committed to excellence - and he delivers it in spades.

Very knowledgeable and passionate about the benefits of kettlebells in achieving athletic dominance Rated 10 out of 10
Chris Holder was a pleasure to talk to at the RKC in San Jose in Feb 2009. His knowledge of training principles to maximize efficiency in the kinetic chain and his ability to actually apply those principles amazed me. Although, to be really nitpicky, when I am paying the big bucks for the certification, it would have been nice to hear the less PC version of his speeches, as, given my personality, I would probably find that entertaining.

GREAT Coach - Committed ... Passionate... Performance... and a little Dave! Rated 10 out of 10
"Be Afraid" was Pavel's instruction for San Jose RKC 2009. I WAS plenty afraid, anxious, and concerned that my preparation would not be enough to get me through the weekend. I arrived early to Chris' home away from home - the Koret Center, Dave Matthews playing, huge football players moving equipment, and Chris orchestrating a Kettlebell training never to be forgotten.

Chris is committed to the RKC program and is passionate about the increased performance that comes through diligent work practicing perfectly, one at a time. Many can be "trainers", but few I would choose as my coach. I am an athlete who commits fully and expect in return to be taught to perform when it matters combining the training with a Coach's belief I can do it. This is where Chris shines even brighter. Although I entered the Koret Center full of doubts and concerns, he never once questioned I could do it. He demanded 110% effort and attention and in return he was certain I would succeed, even when I didn't think it was possible.

Victim's trained, Grad workout completed, pacing for what felt like hours waiting be informed I passed ... I race to find Chris! Chris was thrilled for me but there was no surprise to be found anywhere in his body ... "What, I told you you could do it?"

I would be honored to have Chris as my coach any day, as well as for my kids. The world is a better place when you have someone that believes you can do more than you think you can ... because then you step up and do it! Thanks again Coach Chris - turn up the tunes!

Chris is an amazing teacher. With his keen awareness of movement patterns he, is able to train people to be smarter with their movements. While at RKC certification at his facilities in San Jose, I was lucky enough to get him for my Team Leader. In less than three days, he was able to help me train smarter. Simple, exact ques, and a no fuss approach make him a pleasure to work with! Work with Chris and it will change you for the best!
